Chapter One22 May - 7 June 2025

The Day Destiny Stepped Onto an Escalator

It began on 22 May 2025, on a day that first felt ordinary. I had just completed a construction project and was returning from a job interview, with my mind on my career and the future. Love was the last thing I expected to meet.

As I approached the train station and stepped onto the escalator, I saw Precious. She was beautiful, but what caught my heart was the innocent fear in her reaction to the moving stairs as she tried to find her balance while the lady beside her laughed.

I walked over, smiled, and reassured her that the feeling was normal. I explained that many people feel a brief fear or imbalance when an escalator starts moving upward, then joked that it could feel a little like takeoff on a flight. The tension broke, we laughed, and a stranger's fear became our first conversation.

Chapter Two22 May 2025

The Train Ride That Felt Too Short

We boarded the same train and, by what now feels like more than coincidence, found ourselves in the same coach. We were not speaking constantly, but I kept noticing her and hoping for another opening to talk.

That opening came when the train crossed one of the elevated sections of the railway. Precious looked through the window and wondered aloud how engineers could build such massive structures over water.

The question touched something I loved. I explained how bridge foundations can be built inside rivers and lagoons with cofferdams, temporary watertight structures that keep water away from the work area, along with pumps and careful planning. She listened with genuine interest, and the conversation moved naturally from engineering to life, laughter, and little moments that made the ride feel shorter than it was.

A question about bridges became a bridge between two strangers.

Chapter Three22 May 2025

A Second Chance on the Bus

When our destination arrived, we stepped off the train and I wanted to ask for her phone number. But anxiety won. I hesitated, watched the moment slip away, and immediately regretted it as we walked in different directions.

Still disappointed, I boarded a bus to continue my journey home. Then I looked beside me and could hardly believe what I saw: out of all the buses in Lagos, and out of all the seats she could have chosen, Precious was sitting right beside me.

This time, fear did not get the final word. We picked up the conversation as though it had never stopped, laughed, talked even more, and before the journey ended I finally asked for her number. She smiled and gave it to me. That simple exchange became the first page of our love story.

That bus ride was not an accident. It was grace giving courage a second chance.

Chapter Four5 July 2026

The Birthday That Became a Proposal

On 5 July 2026, my birthday, Precious thought she was simply attending my birthday dinner. She did not know our families and closest friends were waiting on the rooftop for a much bigger celebration.

When we arrived, the surprise on her face said everything. I got down on one knee, told her how much she meant to me, and asked her to spend forever with me.

Through happy tears and a beautiful smile, Precious said yes. My birthday became the day we got engaged, and the most unforgettable gift I could ever receive.

Yes.
